Getting Started for New Members

BioCurious Basics

"Getting Started at BioCurious" email

The "Getting Started at BioCurious email" page is sent to all new BioCurious members when they begin their subscription. This is on our wiki so more people can edit it to improve it.

When is BioCurious open?

We are a volunteer-run space. When volunteers are available, we like to be open open from 12-10 on weekdays and 10-10 on weekends. Your best bet for open hours is always the BioCurious Staffing Calendar on Google.

Can my friends come hang out with me?

Yes, your friends may join you for co-working in our classroom/non-lab space. All visitors to BioCurious must sign a hold harmless form at the front desk. To work in the lab space they will need safety training first.

How do I order supplies?

Members are welcome to ship reagents to BioCurious.  We have a few corporate accounts that Members can use and are glad to create more as necessary. Hop on the BioCurious Members Google Group to ask any questions. (If you haven't already joined, request access here.) Usually members order on their own and ship to BioCurious. Since BioCurious has a corporate address, most companies ship to us, if you make your own account using this address.

How do I learn to use the equipment?

I need this piece of equipment. How do I get it?

Check with equipment@biocurious.org as well as with other members on the BioCurious Members Google Group. It may be something others either have or would like to bring in as a shared resource.

I want to be a bioentrepreneur. What should I know about BioCurious?

- material transfer out of the lab

- bringing stuff into the lab

- We don't take any IP

With Friends

I have an idea for a super cool project...

We would love to hear about it. Post it to the BioCurious Members Google Group. (If you haven't already joined, request access here.)

Organization

What does the board of directors do?

The board establishes operational policies for BioCurious as a business entity and as a community lab. It is responsible for the legal and financial upkeep of the entity.

Where is the membership agreement? Bylaws?

Copies of the membership agreement are in the lab's reception area. Check with a staffer to locate them.

To get a copy of the bylaws, email board@biocurious.org

Donations

I want to give equipment to BioCurious. What's the next step?

Email equipment@biocurious.org and thanks for wanting to donate!

I want to give a financial donation to BioCurious. What's the next step?

Check out our donate page for online donations, or drop in to the lab, where we have a couple of donation boxes set up. Thanks for your donation!
